France Brings Largest Group to Date to NAB Show this April (A030)

March 16th, 2010

FRENCH PAVILION WILL HOST LARGEST GROUP TO DATE AT NABSHOW IN LAS VEGAS FROM APRIL 12-15, 2010

Chicago, March 12, 2010 (word count: 410)
The world’s major broadcasting and audiovisual get-together, NAB Show, will be held in Las Vegas from April 12 to 15, 2010. Now in its 80th year, this show is unquestionably a reference in the world of broadcasting. A delegation of French companies will be presenting French industry’s achievements on a 1,600-quare-foot pavilion, organized by UBIFRANCE, the French Agency for International Business Development, in partnership with the Paris Chamber of Commerce. For the pavilion’s second year, Ubifrance will host 19 companies on the French Pavilion – 40% more companies than last year.

The audiovisual sector in France is mainly driven by the development of digital technology that has led to radical changes both in industry and in the services development. The major event of recent years is the unexpected success of digital terrestrial television. Since the beginning of 2010, 89% of the population has been covered. The deployment of DTTV is continuing to grow with a goal of reaching 95% of the French population by 2011.

In 2008, there was a sustained rate of growth in access to digital media. 57.8% of households had access to digital television (DTTV, satellite, ADSL or cable). Nearly 45% of French households have taken advantage of that access and have gone fully digital. DTTV is responsible for much of the growth. The reception of TV via ADSL also accounts for significant growth.

For all these reasons, French audiovisual companies want to go worldwide present their cutting edge technology. This is why, for the second year,  Ubifrance, the French agency for international business development, has organized a French pavilion for NAB Show.

Located in North Hall, the French Pavilion will present 19 exhibitors coming from the world of radio or television, electronic media and content industry. French know-how will be well showcased: 3-D images with or without glasses, 3-D animation production, archiving and digital media asset management, conditional access solutions, virtual sets, secured content management, as well as audio and video broadcast solutions, TV and radio broadcast systems, etc. The companies are sure to unveil their latest innovations over the four days.

Come and meet the French exhibitors at the trade show and enjoy breakfast every morning on the French pavilion booth N1005.

Ubifrance is hosting a networking cocktail reception at NAB Show for Tuesday, April 13 at 6 p.m. Invitations will be available at the pavilion.

A full list of exhibitors within a French Pavilion catalog is available upon request.

Integrate Online TV Links with Your Web Site, Powered By Open Spreety

October 28th, 2009

Los Angeles, CA

Wouldn’t it be great if most web sites included relevant links to TV shows online? Now there is an easy way to add legal links to top TV shows with Spreety TV Online.

Spreety TV Online is pleased to announce the Open Spreety project, which empowers web sites to include dynamically updating links from the Spreety database into their web sites with a simple script.

The Spreety code generator builds custom scripts for quick insertion into a web site’s html. The code generator can deliver visual links via many categories, including Search, Movies, New & Recently Added, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, Action & Adventure, Art & Entertainment, Business, Comedy, Crime, Documentary, Drama & Thriller, Family, Games & Competitions, History, Home & Garden, Horror & Suspense, Kids, Medical, Music & Radio, Mystery, News & Commentary, Reality, Religion & Spirituality, Romance, SciFi & Fantasy, Science, Shopping, Soap Operas, Sports, Superheroes, Talk Shows, Variety, Western, and Youth TV shows.

Display formats are in two sizes: the 670 pixel wide format with show details, and the 93 pixel wide graphic only format to conserve space.

For example, a web site about the 1960’s could spice up their site with links to 1960’s TV shows. The same is true for genre web sites, like western, science fiction, home & garden, sports, mystery, and more.

Fan sites of TV shows would enjoy the zero maintenance aspect of the online TV links. For example, ABC, NBC, and FOX recently changed their links for watching TV shows, and the Spreety database kept in synch. Certain shows switched from one place to another, like Pushing Daisies (ABC to WB) and Medium (NBC to CBS), and the Spreety database kept in synch.

“This is a win-win for everyone involved”, according to Spreety co-founder Ron Laughton. “We created Spreety to educate people about the legal places to watch free TV online, and now we can share through top notch technology.”

Training videos and a custom code generator are available at the following link: http://www.spreety.com/Membership-APIs.aspx

Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) for Spreety TV Online Search

October 28th, 2009

Spreety TV Online announces a fun way to integrate online TV with your web site.

Los Angeles,

When Microsoft architected Windows Communication Foundation, little did they know it would be this much fun.

The flexibility of WCF enabled Spreety TV Online to cost effectively implement the Open Spreety project. Spreety tracks the legal places to watch TV, news, sports, and movies online, and the Open Spreety project shares the links with everyone via services for reuse into their web sites and blogs.

While Spreety utilized WCF, other web sites can use a variety of service technologies, including WCF, Web Services, and Javascript, giving people the empowerment for best fit opportunities.

For example, a web site about the 1950’s could spice up their site with links to 1950’s TV shows.

“When I learned service oriented architecture (SOA), the available examples were boring”, according to Spreety co-founder Ron Laughton. “Working with online TV via services is much more fun. I would encourage programmers everywhere to try out the Web Services and WCF with Spreety.”

Training videos and a custom code generator are available at the following link: http://www.spreety.com/Membership-APIs.aspx

Get a Surprise This Diwali

October 17th, 2009

Summary

Diwali celebrations contain a universal message beyond the traditional Hindu religion.  Recently even the U.S. President Barack Obama lit a Diwali lamp with a Vaishnavite priest in attendance in the White House itself.

Body

Deepavali / Diwali is a joyful annual celebration commemorating the triumph of divine light shining into the world. A unique feature of Deepavali is the great array of lights set out by participants to denote the return of light where darkness previously prevailed.

Astroved.com, a consumer internet portal specializing in Vedic tradition, also finds an increased interest among many Americans and Europeans in traditionally Hindu holidays.  Our DGM, Mr. B.A. Reddy says “Nearly 80% of members are traditional non-Hindus.  The Western interest in Vedic tradition is a new phenomenon which we have just seen the start of.”

This Diwali, thousands of Westerners will be participating from abroad in Astroved.com’s grand traditional Diwali celebration of a Grand Lakshmi Pooja with 10 sanctified priests chanting 100,008 times the Lakshmi Mantra, culminating with a grand fire ritual to Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth and Kubera.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba says, “The human condition should be governed by sacred qualities- This calls for the purity of body, mind, and speech”! With this in mind, Astroved.com invites you to participate in the grand celebrations that are to be held on October 16th and 17th 2009. Spreety Asks: Is Your Next TV a PC?

August 19th, 2009

According to Spreety.com, the Internet has surpassed TV in content and delivery.

Los Angeles, CA

A wireless computer stands where the TV once was. Gone are the cable box, DVR, DVD, AM/FM radio tuner, and multi-CD player. “The extra shelf space is nice,” comments Krista, co-founder of Spreety.com, “plus I enjoy home videos, photo slideshows, and e-mails from the comfort of my couch.”

What started in 2007 a way to save money by replacing cable TV pleasantly turned into an enhanced entertainment experience. During the next year, most of the major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW, MTV, etc.) decided to publish their shows online. The message is that anytime, anywhere is the future of entertainment.

For kids shows, Nick Jr., Cartoon Network, and Disney provide more than enough Dora, SpongeBob, and Mickey to suite any little one’s tastes. For Showtime and HBO, episodes are available on iTunes for $1.99. For classic shows, there are Scooby-Doo, Bewitched, Gilligan’s Island, and hundreds of others.

Beyond shows, MSNBC, CNN, C-SPAN, ABC, etc. provide live news coverage. For sports, MLB, NHL, and the NBA have live games online for a nominal price. Sunday night NFL is free, as well NCAA football, basketball, NASCAR, and much more.

“There’s more than anyone can watch,” explains Ron, co-founder of Spreety.

So how does one find the great places to watch online? Spreety’s Guide to Watch TV Shows Online was invented for just that purpose, and is the first couch friendly guide for online TV.

Judging by the many people who have visited the Spreety site, it may be the beginning of a new trend. Will your next TV be a PC?

Spreety Upgrades to Cloud Computing

August 14th, 2009

Growth is a nice problem to solve.

Los Angeles, CA

Growth is a nice problem to have for any small business. What if your business went from 20 people a month to 200,000 a month in less than a year?

Spreety’s Guide to Watch TV Shows Online (http://Spreety.com) did just that, and 5 server upgrades later, decided to try something new: cloud computing.

With traditional server upgrades, the process was labor and planning intensive. Typically, the upgrade would involve a code and data freeze, extensive reinstallation, and patience while the domain name updates trickled through the Internet. While the upside of traditional servers is control, the downside is that the hardware had to be expensive enough to handle the peaks of activity.

Enter the cloud computing server solution. The cloud is an amorphous collective of computing power that is inexpensive and handles peak activity gracefully. Billing is based on usage.

“For a growing business, we no longer have to buy powerful machines in anticipation of peaks,” remarks Spreety co-founder Ron Laughton. “Spreety can now grow without interruption, and we simply pay as we go for only what we need.”

The vendor of choice was Mosso’s Rackspace Cloud. Other cloud solutions, such as Microsoft’s Azure, are coming soon.

Hollywords Added to Spreety.com

August 12th, 2009

With Hollywood, knowing the talk is part of walking the walk.

Los Angeles, CA –

With Hollywood, knowing the talk is part of walking the walk. So where can you learn the dynamic terminology of such a trendy industry?

Enter Hollywords, an encyclopedic dictionary of thousands of entertainment terms. Hollywords has been meticulously compiled since 2002, and a three thousand term subset is available on Spreety.com.

The terms span the sophisticated (i.e. avant-garde), to the technical (i.e. variable bit-rate encoding), to the pop-culture (chick flick). Everyone from a casual fan to a chiseled industry expert will find something new to learn.

“At Spreety, we were looking for a quality glossary to compliment our free Entertainment PC e-book. The Hollywords knowledge and depth far exceeded our expectations”, Ron Laughton, co-founder of Spreety’s Guide to Watch TV Shows Online.

“People often use slang and technical jargon to exclude the uninitiated from the inner circle. Hollywords breaks down these barriers and Spreety is an ideal platform to help us spread the word”, Richard W. Kroon, founder of Hollywords.

One question remains: will a word like Spreety ever make the Hollywords list? Only time will tell.

Brand Star Production’s The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television

July 20th, 2009

(Pompano Beach, FL ) –  A great way to display your creative side is through jewelry-making.  To learn the latest trends and styles, The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television welcomes Margot Potter, a multi-talented designer for Beadalon, a provider of do-it-yourself jewelry supplies; how-to videos and other instructional aids.  The segment airs July 2nd as part of the Tribute to the American Family Special.

“Jewelry-making is a super way to show off your unique personality by making one-of-a-kind pieces,” she says.  “Not only is it a great family hobby, but also gives you quality time to spend with your teenager.” The end result is beautiful, wearable art that doesn’t cost a lot of money.

Beadalon provides all the goods you’ll ever need: stringing tools and other supplies for do-it-yourself jewelry fabricators. The firm lends a hand by also offering detailed instructions, animations and streaming videos on its website (http://www.beadalon.com ).

“If it’s not fun, it’s simply not worth doing,” says Potter, an actress, vocalist and noted author of books that include The Impatient Beader how-to series.  She invites people to “think outside of the box” when designing high-quality pieces to either wear or give away as special gifts. “Coordinate the jewelry with your wardrobe as an expression of your own personal style,” she encourages.

Beadalon has been serving the at home jewelry market for the past 33 years.  And long before “going green” was the environmental watchword, the firm created stainless steel jewelry parts with 60 percent recycled content. It continues to lead the way with new “green” initiatives.

Potter’s signature approach kick starts the creative process for do it yourself crafters. She invites everyone to the table for a helping of hand-designed fun and family camaraderie with crafting supplies from Beadalon.

“With Beadalon, you get to spend time together making exceptional jewelry designs in a green-friendly atmosphere,” says Doug Campbell, Executive Vice President of Programming, BrandStar Entertainment, the producers of The Balancing Act. “I know our audience will enjoy this segment.”

Claude Johnson Guitar Review

June 18th, 2009

Anyone who’s ever wondered if they could play the guitar and decided to pursue lessons knows that bashful and uncertain feeling as they approach the one who has the means to make that magic happen. They carefully tread forward in their approach and measure their words carefully with, “Hey, I…well, I was wondering…do you take on students who have never…well, you know….picked up a guitar?” Those awkward moments are removed for anyone who’s ever ordered a Claude Johnson DVD for guitar lessons. In a way that tells us he knows how frustrating it can be, he gently guides even the most unsure students into a world of music via the guitar.

The latest Claude Johnson guitar review has this writer considering the possibilities. After having carefully watched, almost in a trance-like state, even those with absolutely no musical inclinations at all would reconsider their belief. He has a way of convincing those whose contribution to the music world is the ability to turn on a radio that they too can master the guitar.

This is a true must-have for those wishing to play the guitar in a confident and assured manner. Fortunately for us, it makes no difference if we’ve ever even been within ten feet of a guitar. These DVDs cover the realm; from beginners to even those most advanced. Further, after having reviewed his websites, found at http://www.ultimatebeginnerguitar.com , there’s no doubt his patience is genuine and sincere.

Is Claude Johnson a scam?

June 13th, 2009

It’s not unusual to see how a great marketing plan can spell success.  The best know how to work the media to ensure they’re in the limelight.  But what happens when a mistake causes a snowball effect and forces one to seek the limelight in an attempt to repair an image versus building it?

That’s exactly how one man took matters into his own hands.  Is Claude Johnson a scam?  Who better than to answer that than Johnson himself?

After uncovering several customers who purchased one of his popular DVD guitar lessons series and wanted to return them, he found himself on a mission to not only be sure they’d received their refunds, via an outsourced clerking process, but he also wanted to repair the damage that was done due to “the ball being dropped”.  Single-handedly, he employed the services of a large international marketing company that worked with him and that didn’t mind his new hands on approach, courtesy of a new determination to ensure nothing would be done without his prior knowledge, would play such a large role in how the bad press would be handled.

Knowing his product was solid and with his newly acquired lessons of how word of mouth can make or break a business, he moved forward with a new determination.  So what were the results?  Well, one thing’s for sure: the answer to the question of Claude Johnson being a scam has been answered.  He is not, nor was he ever, a scam or a fraud.

Still, in hindsight, Johnson remains true to the one driving force that put him on this journey: the love of music and the gift of being able to teach it.  With thousands of satisfied customers who’ve learned to play the guitar because of Johnson’s dedication, he serves as proof that a little bad press doesn’t mean the end of an otherwise successful business.

Chicago, March 2, 2009 (word count: 741)
Discover the first two installments of the “Perception Zone” series at www.iangoo.com, the first site to propose downloadable episodes of  interactive 3-D computer games for children ages 3 to 8 and their parents and teachers. Published by Univers Numeriques, a new French publisher of educational video games, Perception Zone is a fun and engrossing introductory voyage to worlds of shapes where children learn to manipulate, move, and build with objects in three dimensions.

This Perception Zone collection teaches basic perception skills through games around a theme using shapes, colors, and sounds. Designed for children from 3 to 8 years old, this collection is based on purely positive values and takes kids into a spectacular and peaceful world where there is no failure and no competition.

Parents eager to give their children the means to master logical thinking can either accompany them or leave them in all confidence in the capable hands of Professor Phileo to travel the unique worlds created by Univers Numeriques.

In a harmonious world the children — with their parents or by themselves — learn to manipulate and combine simple shapes, colors, and sounds. They enjoy the company, guidance and support of Professor Phileo, a wise and reassuring mentor, and his faithful “iangoo,” a little cat-dog, and three imps Bool, Pyram, and Q-B. From amusing surprises to logical discoveries, the child is at the center of an enchanting journey.

Once the game is downloaded, children can play it on their own without having to go online. The breakdown into episodes lets them develop and progress at their own speed. From one episode to the next, they face new challenges that stimulate their creative potential.

This is the first game in the Perception collection. It includes eight episodes that form a progressive whole, with a new episode available online every two months on the www.iangoo.com website. They present a pleasantly futuristic 3-D graphic world where children will learn to recognize simple geometric shapes and their roles, how to manipulate them, and how they fit together. “First Flight with Phileo” and “Discovering the 3 Dimensions” are the first two episodes in the game, now available for download at www.iangoo.com .

Episode 1: “First Flight with Phileo”
Phileo introduces the child to the characters and tells him or her about the journey they are about to embark on. Together they are setting out to discover a new virtual world located on and around the planet “Laoh” where they will learn about the rules and tools that will serve them in their future adventures. The child will feel like a real explorer. At the controls of their space ship, they will fly along a path (where a number of traps await them) towards their first workshop where they will learn all about the point, the line, and the plane.

Episode 2: “Discovering the 3 Dimensions”
The child will then change the shape of the plane by adjusting it in length, height, and depth. Interactive animation sequences help them to understand the transformations the plane undergoes. Then Phileo whisks them off to one of the three satellites of the planet “Laoh,” the “World of Squares,” where they play in real time with colored cubes and navigate around the game platform guided by their trusty companions.

The next six episodes will take the children to the “World of Round Shapes,” the “World of Triangles,” and the planet “Laoh,” where they will be encouraged to build villages in unusual and spectacular surroundings.

Cost per episode: $5.99

Setting the Standards in Funfair Safety

January 30th, 2009

JARM Amusements have just released details of a new initiative they are launching to improve upon the already impressive safety record of the UK’s funfair industry. From 1st February they will be subjecting their electrical appliances to 6 monthly Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) to ensure absolute safety at their events. Additionally they will be insisting that other operators attending their events will have to comply with the same scheme.

Company spokesman Arthur Newsome stated that “ The funfair industry in this country has an excellent safety record, due in part to the rigorous annual tests that all attractions are subject to.  We have decided to build upon this and combine the funfair industry standard inspections with a  series of portable appliance tests carried out at 6 monthly intervals which is double the industry standard.”
He went on to explain that they had purchased PAT testing equipment and embarked on a scheme to have key personnel trained in their use, allowing regular in house testing to be carried out.  “We feel that by combining both schemes and decreasing the time between inspections we are setting new standards in our industry. For the ultimate in safety, we will be quite happy to test our attractions before a clients event to offer absolute peace of mind.”

Portable appliance testing, or PAT testing as it is commonly known is a standard in use throughout most industries, but not required of the fairground industry which must comply with the Amusement Device Inspection Procedure Scheme known as ADIPS which in most of its requirements is far more stringent than the regular PAT testing regime used by other industries.

The funfair industry is already one of the safest passenger carrying industries in the U.K. Official Health and Safety statistics point out that;
You are 12 times more likely to be injured on the way to the fair, than injured at the fair.
A pessimistic estimate is that you have a 1 in 83 million chance of being seriously injured or killed at the fair.
Obviously whilst these statistics are impressive, especially when compared to many other industries, there is always something more that can be done, and only by constant vigilance and improvement will this safety record be maintained.

JARM Amusements aim to become the U.K.’s greenest funfair operators

February 22nd, 2008

Following on from their successful switch to Fairtrade products on their catering units, JARM Amusements have just launched their Environmental Policy Statement, with the aim of becoming the most environmentally friendly funfair operators in the U.K.

The initial phase of this policy due to be implemented by mid March will see them replacing all of the consumables such as cups and bags on their candy floss and coffee carts, with biodegradable alternatives. Along with the provision of special mobile recycling stations that will make it easy to collect and separate recyclables such as aluminium cans, plastic and food waste, the company hope to increase the number of events they undertake in partnership with local authorities and other groups who are committed to ensuring sustainability in the events industry.

Company spokesman, Arthur Newsome, explained that ultimately the company hoped to recycle all of their waste, as well as becoming carbon neutral, but that would be something that was going to take time and investment. In the meantime the company would take all of the easier steps that were possible now. He went on to say that, “Little things, like arranging for local gardeners to compost all of our used coffee grinds and teabags, makes a small but still worthwhile reduction in the waste we send to landfill, and the products we do transport to the local tip will be in biodegradable bags, another easy change that anyone can make.” They have arrangements in place with a number of local recycling companies to take the waste generated at their events. More in depth details of their recycling strategy can be found at www.funfairgames.net/html/fairgrounds_and_the_environmen.html
